Residential care

Easthill Home for Deaf People

Easthill Home for Deaf People is unique in offering the UK’s only residential care home for BSL users.

Residential care for deaf BSL users

At Easthill, we offer a person-centred approach to the support we offer. We are proud to be able to offer a living environment where British Sign Language (BSL) is used, ensuring everyone has equal access to information in their preferred language.

Our staff have experience of working with people who have sensory loss and those who may have additional physical, emotional or mental health needs. All staff receive training in BSL in addition to mandatory training.

Caring for your family

Our residents receive support on an individual basis, with independence encouraged through a range of life skills and group activities, which include arts and crafts, games designed to promote fitness, puzzles, and board games. Our residents also have easy access to the internet to stay connected with loved ones.

Within the grounds we have a greenhouse, a summerhouse and a woodwork shop, which can be accessed at any time independently or with support as required.

We organise events throughout the year, including theatre trips, visiting deaf clubs, holidays, day trips to places of interest, BSL church services, swimming, bowling or going out for coffee and shopping.

A place to call home

Easthill fosters a family environment, where residents have an input into the running of the home and organising the day’s events. We also very much encourage the participation and support of friends and family members.

We are registered with the Care Quality Commission

Easthill Home for Deaf People is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

Easthill has been run and operated by [sonus] for over 50 years. In September 2021, [sonus] merged with Deaf Action. The service at Easthill will remain the same, and our team is committed to providing quality care to all our residents. You can read more about our merger here.

“Mum is out most days doing all sorts. We have to plan our visits around her busy life, nothing nicer than phoning only to find out she is out.”
